About the Competition

The Hafiz Al-Quran Competition is a national event open to all Muslims across Australia.

Participants from outside Canberra are welcome to join.

Travel – Participants from outside Canberra cover their own travel expenses.

Stay – The mosque provides accommodation (bring your own sleeping bag and pillow).

The judging process is rigorous, fair, and transparent, overseen by a panel of esteemed scholars:

Evaluation Criteria

  • Accuracy of Memorization – Word-perfect recitation.
  • Tajweed Application – Correct articulation and rules.
  • Fluency & Confidence – Smooth recitation with presence.
 

Scores will be awarded according to a standardized marking system to ensure consistency.

 

A guide to prepare for the Competition


Six Questions

Each participant will be asked six questions, covering a range of difficulty levels to reflect your memorisation skills.

Tasmeeh Length

You may be asked to recite up to 11 lines in one sitting - stay clam, steady and confident.

Random but Fair Selection

Question are chosen randomly, but will be balanced across your memorisation level to ensure fairness.

Different Starting Points

The judging process is rigorous, fair, transparent and is overseen by a panel of esteemed scholars:

  • The beginning of a Surah
  • The start of a Rub' or Page
  • The middle of a Page or Story
  • or anywhere within your memorisation portion
